Legacy Wm
Charity 1180546
Overview
Summary
Legacy WM appears to operate as a place-based bridge organisation in north Birmingham: using migration heritage, arts, sport and wellbeing activity to strengthen belonging and access for communities experiencing deprivation and marginalisation. Its distinctive role is not a single specialist service but connecting residents to cultural institutions, health partners, funding opportunities and community-led activity. The available evidence suggests that heritage remains a foundational lens, while its delivery model has broadened into practical wellbeing, participation and housing-related work.

Observations
Heritage functions as a route into present-day cohesion
Legacy WM appears to use the histories of migration and the cultural contribution of immigrant communities not only as subjects for education, but as a practical means of building belonging and participation among local residents.
Why it matters
This helps explain why heritage trails, arts and community activity sit alongside health and sport: they may be mutually reinforcing ways of helping diverse communities see themselves as part of the place.

“Its objects include advancing education about the history and heritage of the West Midlands and contributions by Asian, African, Caribbean and other immigrant communities.”

A broad offer may be an intentional response to fragmented support
The organisation appears to position itself as a connector across gaps between statutory provision, cultural opportunity and everyday needs, rather than as a narrowly defined heritage charity.
Why it matters
This indicates that its effectiveness may depend substantially on relationships with NHS partners, micro-organisations and other local stakeholders, as well as on its own programmes.
Show evidence
“The services we offer are intended to supplement the provision of services that often fall outside of the remit of statutory providers.”

Participation appears to be a capability-building strategy
Volunteering, community champion roles and sport activities appear designed to build confidence, social connection and leadership, not solely to provide activities or advice.
Why it matters
This suggests Legacy WM may generate value through residents becoming contributors and connectors within their communities, potentially extending its reach beyond direct service users.
